

We are so excited to share with you that Kimugul Primary School at Lemolo A is officially open and children are already there, busy learning!
At the end of July the Nakuru county governor, His Excellency Kinuthia Mbugua officially opened the school and celebrated with the community. In addition to his official duties, Governor Mbugua generously donated 400 school uniforms, sanitary towels for the girls, 500 tree seedlings and 40 bags of maize. These donations were a complete surprise to the people living at Lemolo A and, as you can imagine, the celebrations were joyous and full of thanksgiving.
VICDA would like to thank World Teacher Aid who made the construction of this school possible and who have changed the lives of the children in the Lemolo community. Thank you, also, to Governor Kinuthia Mbugua for his generosity and support.

The last week of September 2014, Anahuac University, one of the most recognized private universities in Mexico because of the social impact, in its 50 anniversary developed an Internacional Social Commitment Congress, CICS, which had the goal to encourage young people to be the change makers the society needs
Key Note Speakers such as SG Kofi Annan, Dr. Patch Adams and Maickel Melamed from Venezuela, gave the 3 days that the Congress last, their testimony of how they had change the world and how young people can do it so.
In behalf of Kenyan international social organizations, Irene Wairimu was able to participate in the Cics in Mexico City to talk about her experience founding Vicda and how they had been changing the reality of Kenya and the way the world perceives Africa, offering them an integral opportunity to volunteer in Kenya.
One of the cultural activities that were part of the Cics was a photographic exhibition of the experience of being a volunteer in Kenya.

This donation came through a group of individual donors who support other projects in Kenya through VICDA. The donation will help the orphanage to cut the expenses due to availability of milk which is mostly used by children in the orphanage.
As you can see, the children at Shelter are excited by the new addition!
The group benefited with medicine,food and spirulina supplements. The group have been struggling with medication and the right diet for their patients which has caused an increased in the number of unnecessary deaths.
Spirulina supplement have been able to boost the patients body immunity is a very high rate which is from bed-ridden to healthy working individuals.

Our next project is to build a Resource Center and empower the group through businesses;
The orphanage benefited with a water pump and grinding machine.
The water pump is being used to pump the water from the source to the greenhouse within the orphanage which was donated by K.I.D.S Initiatives in April,2013 as a source of children nutrients and income for the orphanage.
The grinding machine is to be used for labeling of cloth designs done by the orphanage where the buying of the sewing machines were also facilitated by VICDA through a cash donation from K.I.D.S Initiatives in April,2013.

This area is completely dry and has been lacking water. The water project is making a big impact to the children in school;
Our next project in the school is to implement Irrigation farming within the school where we have set aside 3 acres to be utilized for the purpose of sustainable school feeding program where the implementation will take place from month of April,2015;
The kids were studying under a chanty which has exposure to the sun and rain.
They have finally settled in their new school with new desks as the joy flow in their hearts. Currently there are 427 students in the school; Thank you to VICDA funder WTA,Canada.
VICDA first pilot Agriculture project in Kenya which has been funded by GVN Foundation for community economic empowerment has turned out to be very successful where 530 farmers are the beneficiaries of Sunflower farming where each of the household has been funded from one acre to 4 acres. The project started mid May,2015 and its now the harvesting season where the farmers are harvesting their produce which are ready for the local market by one of the biggest cooking oil manufacturer in Kenya who got in partnership with VICDA. The sunflower is being used as a cash crop to empower the poor rural families in Kenya. Due to the outstanding success of this project,from last week VICDA has been able to register more 600 new farmers in Nakuru county who will start sunflower farming next month. So far,our total registered farmers are 1,130 households. The sunflower crop has 4 seasons in a year in Kenya and its a drought resistant crop. Thank you so much GVN Foundation for funding this wonderful Agriculture Project in Kenya. Haji and Ndonga Farms families can now put a smile on their faces after completion of the new Safina Haji Primary School which was launched on 27th July,2015. From next week which is the third semester in Kenya Education System,the children in these communities will start enjoying their new school from grade 1 to 8 with no hustles at all. Apart from putting up the building,we have also been able to provide desks for all the kids,stationery,soccer balls and other playing kits. World Teachers Aid and its great team of donors have made this happen. VICDA and WTA have so far been able to complete 5 beautiful new schools in 3 and half years which are fully furnished,stationery provided. Special thanks to all the donors who have tirelessly participated in this noble cause; The donors have touched the lives of children who were a few years ago homeless and had no access to education due to vulnerability and poverty which they were put on after they were displaced from their homes due to 2007/2008 post election violence. Thank you for putting your funds where it deserve most.
Participants on the 2016 Voluntourism Trip (July 3rd – 17th) will expose volunteers to the Africa local community and volunteering at a Medical Camp,teaching in schools and volunteering at other ongoing VICDA Projects on the site. The project are based in Nakuru County in Rift Valley Region. This group of IDP’s (Resettled Internally Displaced People) were displaced as a result of ethnic clashes in the December 2007 Presidential Elections. The Kenyan government has resettled these particular groups near Rongai, Kenya but they still have a long way to go in rebuilding their lives. VICDA has worked with this group since 2008 and has recently overseen the construction of a large elementary and High schools,provision of water and sanitation,schools feeding programs,sustainable agricultural projects on the grounds. VICDA is currently overseeing the construction of more schools and other projects for these residents but, in the meantime, much needed medical care is provided by donated traveling Medical Camps

The implementation of irrigation farming for both Kimugul and Sundet Primary schools in Lemolo Community sustainable feeding program has been completed and the corns,beans,cabbage and onion seeds have already been planted. Throughout the years,Lemolo area is hardly hit by drought and hunger which keeps the children away from schools. The project will serve around 800 schools children. This project has been fully funded by Kids Initiatives,Canada.
After completion of 1st season of sunflower economic agricultural farming distribution of sunflower seeds to 537 registered farmers,the program has expanded to an additional of more than 300 registered sunflower farmers from Shalom,Solai(Nakuru County) and Wiumiririe(Laikipia county) who have joined VICDA in its 2nd season of sunflower farming. The 2nd farming season started on 1st October,2015. This project is improving economic livelihoods of the poor rural farmers in Kenya. The sunflower produce has a very wide Kenya market where its used by local manufacturers to produce cooking oil and animal feeds. This project has been fully funded by GVN Foundation,Newzealand who have partnered with VICDA the last 9 years.
After distribution of sunflower seeds on the month of October,2015 for agricultural economic empowerment season two,the families in Nakuru and Laikipia counties will be harvesting the sunflower produce in the next two weeks. This project has done exceptionally well and the number of farmers has increased immensely where VICDA has expanded an arm to Lomas Cooperative Marketing Society where all the sunflower farmers are registering as members to enable good coordination of the managing and learning of the project. As we get ready to the Season three sunflower farming,the number of farmers is growing at a very high rate in different parts of the country. Season three start on 1st March,2016. This project has been fully funded by GVN Foundation for both Season one and two.
To be efficient with our services of meeting the needs of the community VICDA serve,VICDA has formed a team under Lomas Cooperative Marketing Society who will be guiding and advising all the farmers in VICDA program on the sunflower project where our next seed rotation will be soya beans as requested by our partners(buyers).
Concerning the irrigation farming project for sustainable school feeding program for Lemolo A and B Schools,so far the project has been very successful. 18 out of 32 Women Groups recruited by VICDA Organization at Lemolo Community in Rongai constituency in Nakuru County has benefited from Women Enterprise Fund where each group of 10 women has been given US$1,000(Kshs.100,000). The total funds which has been released is US$18,000(Kshs.1,800,000). The Groups have been trained on how to learn their businesses and VICDA has already placed one of its staff member on the ground for continuous training support to the women as they start operating their businesses. The event was graced by Mrs. Raymond Moi(Wife to Honorable Raymond Moi,MP Rongai Constituency) and Ms Irene Wairimu of VICDA.
The remaining 14 women groups will be funded on round two funding.
The new day public Bright Hope High School in Lemolo Village,Rongai Constituency,Nakuru County. The construction of this school started February this year(2016) and it has a new in-take of 73 students who are all in Form one. The students did their K.C.P.E last year. More than half of the students comes from 2 public primary schools (Kimugul and Sinendet Primary schools in Lemolo) which have been constructed by VICDA,Kenya and fully funded by WTA Canada and the rest of the students comes from the nearby surroundings. Both Primary schools have more than 700 students from the local community; The Bright Hope High school have all classrooms from form 1 – 4, two laboratories with a chemical storage for science subjects,10 toilets(4 – for girls,4-boys ,2 for the teachers) and office administration block; education is very much affordable in term of school fees. The government charge a fee of between (kshs.4,000)US$40 – (Kshs.5,000)US$50 per child per semester.The government has already brought in TSC teachers; Currently, the VICDA team are on the ground completing the construction of the administration block which should be completed by next week;
The construction of Safina Haji High School in Subukia Constituency in Nakuru county is ongoing with the VICDA team on the ground working tirelessly to have it completed by end of July,2016; The School is also a day public High School which target the kids within the area and its environs; the education is very much affordable in term of school fees. The government charge a fee of between (kshs.4,000)US$40 – (Kshs.5,000)US$50 per child per semester. The families living in this community are peasant farmers and they are also part of the resettled IDPs who are still trying to build their lives; The construction of this school includes 8 classrooms( two streams from form 1-4),2 laboratories with a chemical storage for science subjects,office administration block,10 toilets;
Next week we move with another VICDA Construction Team to Molo to start Construction of Baraka Shalom Primary school in Sirikwa village,Molo Constituency,Nakuru County; The school should also be completed by end of July,2016; All the schools project have been funded by WTA,Canada.
